The Cape Cod Room

If I close my eyes and inhale the aromas wafting up from the Cape Cod Pot Pie in front of me, i am taken away to a quaint little eatery somewhere along the coast of New England. Then i open my eyes to find myself on Miami Beach at Ken Lyon’s newest endeavor, The Cape Cod Room, which is situated at the back of the historic Bath Club which was originally built in 1926.

Upon leaving your car with the valet, you’ll be led through a Mediterranean style foyer, past the beautiful terrace and function rooms of clubhouse, and on to the 75 seat dining room overlooking the pool.

Provence Town Seafood Stew

The restaurant, which officially opens November 1st , for brunch and the 4th for dinner, is furnished with chic baby powder blue upholstered arm chairs and dark wood. Lining the back wall are nautical black and white photographs by Morris Rosenfeld and Sons. Understated northeastern elegance is the best way to describe it. To start the meal, we tried a few of the appetizers from the menu.

4 Unique Soups

The Locke-Ober’s Lobster stew, tomato bisque, and outer Cape soup with jag, linguicia & kale were are notably good, but the Cape Cod Quahog chowder was exceptional. The Canadian Mussels and Miniature Lobster rolls were also tasty. For entrees, the pan-caramelized brown butter New Bedford sea scallops are a must. I really enjoyed the crispy fried sage and thyme used in the preparation. Getting back to the Pot pie, I break through the flaky crust with a fork to find chunks of shelled Maine lobster, juicy Massachusetts sea scallops,

Cape Cod Pot Pie

potatoes, fresh peas, onions, and carrots swimming in a sherried lobster sauce. The last serving of the Provence Town Seafood Stew was ordered by the table before us, but from the delicious looks of it, that will be my reason to return another day.

Indian Pudding

For dessert, id recommend the smooth lemon curd with short bread cookies or the Indian pudding. According to chef Jorge Cardenas, the pudding has no pumpkin in it, but with the cinnamon, ginger and molasses it’s even more satisfying. The Cape Cod Room is located at 5937 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach. The Manager is Bevon Braham. For information or reservations call 305-864-1264

The tastes, colors, scents, and textures are what fill my mind every waking moment of life. Why not attempt to do what I love by marketing the food experiences that surround me and create a forum for others to take advantage of what ive enjoyed. Ive called it “Edible Marketing!” You could say i journal my eating experiences through my camera’s lense, more than through my words, but this new outlet will join the two. Anyone who knows me could attest to the fact that I post the an endless supply of appetizing & hunger inducing shots, but the captions need to bring the pics to life. Ive taken the first step towards journalism by joining Dine Magazine, an upscale dining magazine. This publication, based in South Florida, is how I’ll better acquaint myself with the inner workings of the restaurant world. After attending quite a few events and tasting my way through 14+ eateries, ive gained 5 lbs and the confidence to say im on the right path. So far, so good!
